A very busy year!
2022 has been a very busy year for me and I’m hugely grateful to have been booked to teach at so many events. It was a huge honour. If you haven’t made it along to a green wood festival, I’d highly recommend it. Green wood people really are the best - friendly, welcoming and encouraging. There's a real sense of community with friendships deepening and new friends being made at each event. I learn so much and inspired by the enthusiasm of others. Each festival has their own subtle differences but all the events I was at this year were fantastic, all helped along by the long warm spring and summer. I’m indebted to the organisers of each one and to all the attendees for making them so wonderful to be at.
Between events I’ve also had many people who’ve booked to come along to my place in Hastings to learn pole lathe bowl turning, spoon carving and even to make weaving heddles. I’m so happy to get people started on their journey with those or to help those with some experience to take the next steps and progress with what they do.
2022 was an exceptional year as some events had been postponed from the previous two years and many events offer different tutors a chance to teach from one year to the next, so I’m not expecting to be in as much demand in 2023. It’ll take a bit of thinking on my feet to stay afloat next year, maybe more time for making and selling online and locally.
for next year I’ve just got a few events confirmed so far, including -
Meet the Woodturner Live, online event 27-29 January, www.meetthewoodturner.com
courses at the Bodger’s Ball (May 4-7 ) ,
Weald and Downland museum (30th June - 2 July), bowl turning and brushmaking
Spoontown 27-30 July,
Joy Farm Crafts near Guildford 1-3 Sept.
